Nicknamed "sacred monster" by Jean Cocteau, Sarah Bernhardt explored and experimented with all the artistic creations of her time, including sculpture. As well as practising this discipline at a high level, which earned her the recognition of her peers, she maintained many friendly relationships with artists and their assistants who benefited from her influence and patronage.
