Robert Couturier passed away in 2008 at the age of 103, having lived through the century like an enchanted faun, playing his own little tune—sometimes serious, sometimes humorous. A disciple of Maillol, whose influence he felt until World War II, his training as a lithographer and draftsman is reflected in his sculpture through the purity of his lines and the ease with which his works—almost always playful—can be interpreted.
